Projects in Progress Chapter 2

The current push is to get the to do list to a manageable size. This means the plans for any given day are actually achievable. Obligations are being consistently met, no new obligations are taken on unless they are strategically essential – they get me radically closer to an existing outcome.

All current open projects that can’t rapidly completed must be stabilized by bringing them to a state and or location where they can remain indefinitely without deterioration, danger, waste or getting in the way of other projects. In the future stabilization is built in, by projecting phases for projects. Here’s the new protocol, immediately followed by a list identifying projects and what’s needed to stabilize them.

Project protocol

• start and finish projects in manageable stages, don’t leave a stage partially complete.

• no more than three projects open and only for the following reasons

waiting on parts

waiting on assistance

engineering and research

surprise re-prioritization

need sleep

emergency

• order projects according to weather, availability of parts, master plan, primary categories, current priorities

• don’t start new projects to procrastinate on older projects

• make time to play, pure play

Stabilize!

DOG
This is the poster child of unfinished projects, 6 years +. Repeatedly underestimated the amount of effort required. I am supposedly gonna wrap it in 3 months. Must hire roto help and then dedicate 30 hrs/week. It’s vital to continue working intelligently and continuously until it’s complete, no stabilizing.

ALM
Archive – Store or weatherize boats before snow flies. Either move Rosie next to the house or build a house over her. Move all Hobies to the farm, disassemble and rack in clean storage cube or tarp with ropes not bungies for the winter. Rosie needs to be a serviceable extra bedroom by November. All sails and parts inventories and out of weather. Inventory all expedition gear. Inventory all media.

Hello World still busted – schedule to make her right?
Sailing gear disorganized – bags at least
Hobies untouched – move and store

Brooklyn /  NYC
Leverage lessons. Tai Chi forms and ki gong consistent practice 2-3 times a week. Learn all forms! Finish backroom, green house, invite NYC friends to visit – Ndong, Anastasia, Marion, Patricia, Cynthia, Bob, Maho. Finish DOG then Steve and Carmen reconnect. Continue getting organized and clearing old projects = progress.

Raft
Deck lumber stacked and tarped, raft tarped and ready for snow. Be ideal if a free slightly sunny day could be found for final grind and rust remediation, then another for paint. A winter of storage isn’t the best for paints.

Rosie
Either move Rosie next to the house or build a house over her. Vacuum and paint interior so she can be a spare bedroom.

October 13, 2012, deleted repetitive content, added practice categories.
